Posted by: Eli GeorgeWEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police want to find the driver who left the scene after hitting a teen-aged bicyclist on Orchard Park Road in the early morning hours.
“I’m really lucky that it didn’t get worse. I didn’t die,” said victim Danielle Aragon.
14-year-old Danielle held back tears while remembering the hit-and-run accident that left her seriously injured.
Danielle said, “It happened really fast and the car hit me. And then, I just remember, like, being on the cement in the street and a couple stopped to help me.”
At around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, the West Seneca teen says four of her friends left a sleepover to get snacks. While riding their bikes near 850 Orchard Park Road, Danielle says a man driving a grey four-door sedan crossed into the biking lane and hit her head-on.
“I was yelling and crying,” said Danielle.
Danielle’s friend, Molly Sikorski was there, and said, “It was the scariest thing that ever happened, and I just immediately jumped off my bike and ran to her. And I knew we needed help, so, um, I went into the street and stopped a car.”
Danielle badly injured the right side of her body, suffering a broken kneecap and wrist, as well as a concussion.
Her mom, Yvette Aragon, said, “It was devastating. I’m just glad that she’s alive because it could have been a lot worse.”
Yvette realizes her daughter shouldn’t have been out that late, saying, “People had said, you know, “What is a 14-year-old doing out at that hour?” You can’t control everything your kids do 24 hours a day. And, you know, if they want to sneak out of the house to go get some snacks, you know, they test their limits.”
Yvette just wants the man who hit her daughter to come clean. She added, “I, again, would plead for that person to come forward and, uh, take the consequences because, again, you’re making it a lot worse. What if that person had a son or daughter 14-years of age and that happened to them? What would they do?”
Police are still looking for the driver. If you have any information, you can contact West Seneca Police at 674-2280. Police say the vehicle is a grey four-door sedan with damage to the front end and a possible broken headlight.
